Health Care Reform, Just Another Way To Raise Taxes

On Wednesday the Gather homepage posted a poll that asked if you would be willing to pay more in taxes for Universal Health Care. Out of the almost 200 respondents, a shocking 57% answered yes. I assume that most of the people answering yes have an amount that would be too high to pay in taxes for health care, social security, welfare, or even national defense. The poll did not mention how much you would have pay in taxes for the coverage, which is not that different from many of the health care plans being touted by some of the presidential candidates.

Democratic Senator Barack Obama released the “details” of his plan recently, during which he mentioned that it would provide an average of $2500 savings for each individual covered. He plans to make the government, businesses, and consumers share in the cost. Allow me to translate that last statement. Each and every one of us will be footing the entire bill for this health care coverage. The government has no means of making money to pay into the system. They rely on tax revenues from all of us to pay the bills. Businesses pay their taxes, for everything not just health care, by incorporating their taxes into the price of their product or service. Their customers pay their taxes by buying their product or service. If the business tax goes up to help pay for health care then so will the price of their product or service. Lastly the consumer is privileged to pay whatever cost is left.

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton was first on the scene in 1993 during her husband’s first year in the White House. She was the point person for the Health Care Reform plan that the White House tried to push through Congress. Her website states that she wears the “scars” of fighting for health care reform. Her reform was ultimately defeated after “aggressive opposition”. Keep in mind that her version of reform was defeated by a Democrat controlled House and Senate. Her own party rejected her plan in 1994 and was one of the reasons for the Republican takeover of Congress that same year. She has not offered a new plan, so we can only surmise that she will reintroduce her original health care reform plan.

Former Senator John Edwards offer the most details of his health care plan, calling for, among other things, all Americans to contribute to drive down the cost of health insurance, and to expand Medicaid. He also talks of tax credits and using “innovative” ways to control health care costs. I admit that I am leery of any politician that says they will “find innovative ways to control health care costs”. In my skeptical mind, that simply means higher taxes. A brief look at history will show that most attempts by the government to “control” the cost of a product or service, usually drives the price of that product or service up in the long run.

Proponents of this Universal Health Care, or Socialized Medicine, point to Canada and to Cuba as shining examples of how well Socialized Medicine does work. A simple Google search provided a few major media stories that show a different story. Canada offers free health care for all, but you just have to wait in a little line to be seen. One doctor spoke of a letter informing a patient of an electrocardiogram in 3 months, a significant wait for someone with a heart condition. An added statement on the letter is frightening. It added: "If the person named on this computer-generated letter is deceased, please accept our sincere apologies." Controversial filmmaker Michael Moore’s recent movie “Sicko” is a look at health care and points to Cuba as having world class health care. Mr. Moore neglects to point out that when Cuban dictator Fidel Castro needed surgery he had a Spanish surgeon flown in to perform the surgery. If Cuba has the finest health care available, why would the leader of that country need to fly in a surgeon for his own surgery?

One aspect of each plan posited that is the same is that in order to pay for the reform, taxes will need to be raised. None of the candidates have mentioned how much taxes will need to be raised to pay for their plans. Obama mentions that he will rollback the temporary tax cuts for the wealthy. He does not inform us of what the criteria is for being considered wealthy. Wealth is a relative term. For a person who makes $20,000 a year, anyone who makes more than they do could be considered wealthy by comparison. I find it amusing that the last time a presidential candidate publicly admitted that they were going to raise taxes if elected, it was 1984 and the candidate was Walter Mondale. For the record, he lost 49 out of 50 states in the general election to President Ronald Reagan.

Health care in the United States is by no means perfect, but what country in the world has better health care? There is room for improvement in any system, but creating a socialistic system of health care is not the answer. Every time the government tries to “reform” something, we all end up paying more in taxes and the “reform” is worse than what we had in the first place. The Medicare reform plan that was passed a few years ago, more than doubled in cost before the ink on the bill was dry. Why does anyone believe that this government plan will be any different?

Abortion clinic employee guilty of sexual abuse

Malkin digs up another bad abortion clinic.

"Kevon Walker, 22, was charged earlier this month with getting his then 14 year-old girlfriend pregnant. He got the unnamed girl pregnant three times in six months and the girl wound up having three abortions as a result.

However, abortion businesses failed to report the statutory rape to authorities and officials only began investigating Walker's actions when the victim's mother contacted them."

Secure Our Borders Gear Going On Sale

I am putting together ideas for gear to sale regarding Border Security. This pretty much started hours ago, so I have one bumper sticker so far. I will be adding other stickers, t-shirts and various items.

A portion of the profits will go to various organizations that help to secure our borders. Included so far will be NumbersUSA, GrassFire, and the Minutemen. I will consider other organizations that are suggested by commenting on my blog. I would also like suggestions for additional gear.

The amount donated to the organizations depends of the amount made and the effort involved. Using the current resource, I should be able to get this stuff put together without quitting my day job, which is a good thing. Pass this on to those who are interested in the gear and those who may have ideas for merchandise.

Thanks

Here is the official stuff from the CIA regarding Plames covert status.

When traveling overseas, Ms. Wilson always traveled under a cover identity--sometimes in true name and sometimes in alias--but always using cover--whether official or non-official cover (NOC)--with no ostensible relationship to the CIA.

Uh huh. So does that LEGALLY define her as covert? Some aren't so sure.

Oh yeah, let's not forget that it was actually her husband who outed her by the way.

Hillary Announces Her Intent To Turn America Into A Communist Nation

Not only did Hillary Clinton announce that she plans on turning our capitalist system into a communist system, she lied her backside off while doing so.

I’ll go over the highlights. She claimed that family incomes have decreased $1,300 in the past 6 years. New jobs pay on average 21% less than the jobs that have been lost. There has been a 4% increase in the percentage of workers falling below the poverty line. She claims that all of this is due to tax cuts for the rich and other bad economic policies.

The reality is that wages across the board have gone up. It isn’t that her math is wrong, it is that she is manipulating it. The left is making a deal over the rich/poor gap. The top earners have increased their pay at a higher rate than the lower earners. They use this to claim that lower wages have gone down. This isn’t true. All wages have gone up. And private business ownership has also gone up also, 3.7% a year since 2000 compared to about 2.3% from 1991 - 1999. Guess what Hillary, these business owners have caused that gap to increase.

She brought up Social Security and health care. “That's why they want to privatize Social Security and let individuals bear the risks. It's why their answer to the health care crisis is limited to creating health savings account, which allows the healthiest people to get the best deal, with little concern if the sickest get worse.”

This is the woman who applauded the fact that Congress prevented Bush from implementing the Social Security plan that Bill Clinton suggested in 1998, interesting. Although if you really think about it, she applauded the fact that the democrats prevented reform, and the fact that they actually refused to offer any alternatives, but that is a long story that would take a few pages itself. Claiming that the health care answer is limited to health savings accounts makes me wonder if Hillary pays attention when she votes down a measure to allow small business owners to join together in an effort to get group discounts on employee health insurance.

She hammered Bush for his “unfair” corporate tax breaks. “First, I'm going to work to level the playing field and reduce the special breaks for big corporations.”
And let’s see what she said about shipping jobs overseas. “Second, let's once and for all get rid of the incentives for American companies to ship jobs and profits overseas. It is one thing for the marketplace to encourage overseas investment. It's another for our own tax code to do so.”

What this lawyer who apparently never took an economics class failed to mention is the opinion of many economists regarding the best way to bring most of those jobs back to the USA. That would be the elimination of all corporate taxes. Corporations spend hundreds of billions each year not only paying taxes, but paying people to pay those taxes. If you cut them out of the picture, you reduce costs. Those costs get invested back into the corporations in the way of higher wages, increased employment, and lower costs for the good and services they provide. In other words, pay increases and your grocery bill decreases. Then all you need to do to help save the U.S. automobile industry is get rid of corrupt unions.

She hammered Bush for budget deficits. She failed to mention that the deficit is under the 40 year average compared to GDP, which is the way economists measure it. She also failed to mention that much of that money is going to fight wars against terrorist regimes that her husband refused to fight himself. Oh yeah, she also didn’t mention how much is going to increase her favorite liberal causes like Medicare.

“It's time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few and for the few, time to reject the idea of an ‘on your own’ society and to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity. I prefer a ‘we're all in it together’ society.
Now, there is no greater force for economic growth than free markets, but markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed.”

I’m sure that is exactly what Chavez said just before he sent those tanks to the television stations.

“We need to open up CEO compensation to public scrutiny and public challenge and ensure that boards of directors are independent when determining CEO pay. And we need to update our regulations to confront the emerging problems in our sub-prime and private equity markets.”

Sounds like Chavez again, maybe before he took over the oil companies and chased out most of the people in his country who have college degrees.

Free markets need to be free, not bogged down by government controls. What our economy needs is less intrusion by lawyers who get elected. Doesn’t it frighten anyone besides myself that we have so many lawyers in Washington, and so few economists? I’m tired of lawyers making economic policies and trying so hard to tell companies how much they need to pay their people.

Now I would take a moment to look up the transcript for Obama’s recent speeches, but that man is so blatantly stupid that reading them makes me cry. So I’ll leave you all to go find them yourselves. But please, try to get past the hype.

‘Border-Fence Logic’ Sets Dangerous Precedents

Common sense dictates that any effort to secure the 1,950-mile U.S.-Mexican border should involve construction of a fence that spans the entire length of that border. Unfortunately, common sense is a rare commodity in Washington, D.C., as evidenced by the fact that current legislative proposals address barely 870 miles of border. Makes me wonder what would happen if we applied BORDER-FENCE LOGIC to other areas of our society.

Idiots at infowars get it wrong, and idiots on digg fall for it.

Here is what a report from The Transactional Records Action Clearinghouse states:
Despite repeated claims by high officials of the Bush Administration that fighting terrorism has been the central mission of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) since it began operating, the data show that in the last three years a claim of terrorism was made against only 12 (0.0015%) out of 814,073 individuals against whom the DHS has filed charges in the immigration courts.

Pay no attention to the fact that this study is showing obvious bias, it gets worse. The following is what a complete tardo from infowars claimed:
Records obtained from the immigration courts under the Freedom of Information Act show that only 0.0015 percent of the total number of cases filed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security were terrorism related, despite the fact that the Bush administration has repeatedly asserted that it is the primary focus of the DHS.

Try to pay attention. DHS is in charge of the Border Patrol. This means that every single time the Border Patrol or INS picks up an illegal alien and send them to court, it gets counted in the DHS column. Also pay attention to the discrepancy from the report to what Steve Watson from infowars claims. Watson doesn’t even mention that the statistics only account for charges filed in IMMIGRATION courts.
“only 0.0015 percent of the total number of cases filed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security were terrorism related”
This statement is wrong, according to the very report he cited. He attempts to go around the fact that this report is talking specifically about the charges brought into immigration courts. Add that to the fact that the report skips over the fact that every time INS and the Border Patrol charge someone, they are effectively being charged by the agency they fall under, Department of Homeland Security.

By the way everyone, it took about 30 seconds of research to get this info.

How Many Times??

Pelosi Has Seen Global Warming

From Yahoo

BERLIN - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) said Monday she led a congressional delegation to Greenland, where lawmakers saw "firsthand evidence that climate change is a reality," and she hoped the Bush administration would consider a new path on the issue.

The good news is that she didn't tell Global Warming that Israel wanted to have peace talks.

I'm wondering if the Speaker has any ideas on how to fix this?

Study: Sarin at root of Gulf War syndrome

By Kelly Kennedy - Staff writer
Posted : Saturday May 26, 2007 15:59:15 EDT

As benefits administrators, officials and politicians argue the worthiness of studies on Gulf War syndrome, researchers say they have no doubts that they’ve found the root of the problem.

Sarin gas.

And they have advice for as many as 300,000 troops exposed to small doses of sarin in 1991: Don’t use bug spray, don’t smoke and don’t drink alcohol.

“Don’t do anything that would aggravate a normal, healthy body,” said Mohamed Abou-Donia, a neurobiology scientist at Duke University who conducted two studies for the Army.

Research released in early May showed that 13 soldiers exposed to small amounts of sarin gas in the 1991 Gulf War had 5 percent less white brain matter — connective tissue — than soldiers who had not been exposed. A complementary report showed that 140 soldiers who were exposed had the fine motor skills of someone 20 years older — what researchers called a “direct correlation” to exposure.

A list of units exposed to sarin in the 1991 Gulf War is online.

Can Nicolas Sarkozy Destroy Hezbollah?

Matthew Levitt from counterterrorismblog thinks so.

Sarkozy could lead the way to get the EU to designate Hezbollah properly, as a terrorist group. He sees them differently than Chirac saw them. He sees terrorism differently than Chirac saw terrorism.

How Nicolas Sarkozy could destroy Hezbollah
By Matthew Levitt

In today's The New Republic Online, Mike Jacobson and I argue that French President Nicolas Sarkozy is uniquely positioned to lead the way forward toward a European Union designation of Hezbollah as a terrorist group. Here's why:

The United States and Europe have long disagreed on how to categorize Hezbollah. While the U.S. government designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization a decade ago, the European Union has not. Doing so would require the consensus of all 27 member states, and several countries have been opposed, including Spain, Belgium, and, in particular, France. The French have cited a number of reasons for their resistance, including Hezbollah's role as a political party in Lebanon and the fear of upsetting Lebanon's tenuous domestic political balance.

A Must Read

A man whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War Two owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism.

"Very few people were true Nazis "he said," but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories."

We are told again and again by "experts" and "talking heads" that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace.

Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history.

It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals.

The hard quantifiable fact is that the "peaceful majority" the "silent majority" is cowed and extraneous.

Communist Russia comprised Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China's huge population, it was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.

The average Japanese individual prior to World War 2 was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel and bayonet.

And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were "peace loving"?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.

Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awake one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.

As for us who watch it all unfold; we must pay attention to the only group that counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Lastly, at the risk of offending, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious and just deletes this email without sending it on, can contribute to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand.

So, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on!! Let us hope that thousands, world wide, read this - think about it - and send it on.

This Is What A Dictator Looks Like

I'm sure we all remember the pictures of Cindy Sheehan and Danny Glover hugging and damn near making out with Hugo Chavez. I'm also sure that you have read the numerous stories telling of the current attempt by George Bush to turn the U.S. into a dictatorship.

Well kids, this is what it actually looks like when a leader turns into a dictator. Hugo has now shut down a television station that spoke out against his up and coming regime. I'm wondering how many leftists in the US will speak out against this action. My guess is that they won't. They are busy spreading false rumors about Bush building secret prisons and trying to shred the Constitution. They can't provide any evidence of course, but that doesn't stop them. In the meantime, a madman just to the south of here continues to turn Venezuela into a communist dictatorship. CATO Institute Talks About Gas Prices

And they also talk about how stupid your Congressmembers can act.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the "No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels Act of 2007" (NOPEC) is probably the most ridiculous piece of legislation ever hammered through Congress. That serious people entertain this idea is a remarkable demonstration of the fact that, once the topic of conversation turns to oil, the human brain spontaneously short-circuits, nodal synapses fire randomly, and I.Q. points bleed out of the cranium and all over the kitchen floor. From "OPEC Is Not in the House"

High Gas Price Hysteria
With the Memorial Day weekend here, Congress appears determined to leave no bad idea behind in their frantic quest to demonstrate that they feel the voters' pain over high gasoline prices. On May 22, they voted to allow the federal government to sue OPEC for violations of America's anti-trust laws. On the 23rd, they voted to ban service stations from taking "unfair advantage" of motorists and outlawed "unconscionably excessive" prices for gasoline and other fuels were the president to declare an energy emergency. As the summer driving season begins, Cato is pleased to offer some realistic assessments of gas prices and recent Congressional overreaction.

Energy Efficiency: Can Tax Incentives Reduce Consumption?
On May 24, Cato scholar Chris Edwards testified before the Senate Committee on Finance on energy efficiency and the federal tax code. Edwards argues that while additional tax incentives probably could reduce U.S. energy consumption modestly, narrow incentives complicate the tax code, create distortions that reduce growth, and move down the slippery slope of widespread social engineering through the tax system. "On the other hand," says Edwards, "Congress should reform tax provisions that hinder new investments in energy production and conservation. Current business depreciation rules for energy and conservation investments are unfavorable compared to the rules in other countries."

Is Al Qaeda a bit strapped for cash?

"As for the needs of the Jihad in Afghanistan, the first of them is financial. The Mujahideen of the Taliban number in the thousands, but they lack funds. And there are hundreds wishing to carry out martyrdom-seeking operations, but they can't find the funds to equip themselves. So funding is the mainstay of Jihad. They also need personnel from their Arab brothers and their brothers from other countries in all spheres: military, scientific, informational and otherwise... And here we would like to point out that those who perform Jihad with their wealth should be certain to only send the funds to those responsible for finances and no other party, as to do otherwise leads to disunity and differences in the ranks of the Mujahideen."

Completely Worthless Immigration Reform

As the Senate continues to debate the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill, the American people are rapidly becoming aware of the details of the bill. As has been the case over the past several years, most Americans do not favor giving amnesty to over 12,000,000 illegal immigrants. The administration and the congressional proponents of the bill claim that it will not provide amnesty but it will give these hard working people a path to citizenship.

Carlos Gutierrez, Commerce Secretary, and Michael Chertoff, Homeland Security Secretary, were the administration’s representatives during the closed door negotiations with members of both political parties for the writing of the bill. Both Secretary’s met with the USA Today editorial board to discuss the new immigration bill. Chertoff asserts that it is impossible to deport all of the illegal immigrants and that if we do not pass something now that millions of families will be without any way of becoming legal. Gutierrez’ comments are a bit more telling. He stated that it was a way to bring more workers into the U.S. workforce.

Chertoff’s comments begs the question, When have we tried to enforce the existing immigration laws and allowed the border patrol to do their job? Why is now the only time to handle this problem? With the federal, state, and local governments’ past history of willingness of enforcing the existing laws, who really believes that the new laws will ever be enforced?

Gutierrez’ statements shed some sunshine on a new tactic to expand the size of government and increase the taxpayer rolls. Is this the new plan to “fix” Social Security? Most of these “undocumented” workers are using stolen social security numbers and are paying into social security. Wasn’t that one of the myriad of reasons why we needed to grant them all amnesty?

Senator Mel Martinez, the General Chair of the Republican National Committee, stated that the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill has the potential to save the GOP. Mr. Martinez fails to realize that the illegal immigration problem is not a republican or democratic problem, it is an American problem that needs to be addressed in a manner that will improve our homeland security and our border security.

Senator Ted Kennedy has been involved with immigration reform since 1965 when he managed that legislation on the Senate floor. He was a pivotal player in the 1986 version of reform. Once again, Teddy is heavily involved in the most recent version of immigration reform. Each time the debate heats up over immigration, Kennedy is first on the scene to handle the situation and solve the problem. The 1986 reform package led to amnesty for over 3,000,000 illegal immigrants and Kennedy and others led us to believe that this was necessary to stop illegal immigration. 20 years later and the numbers have grown four times and this time they are sure that they can fix the problem.

I believe the Republican support is coming from the business interest in cheap labor and the administration’s desire for more taxpaying workers. This thinking is flawed in that, the current illegal workers, work cheaply because of their illegal status. Once they are granted amnesty and become legal workers, they will immediately demand higher wages and benefits. The tax issue has already been covered. These illegal workers already have stolen social security numbers to pay into the system. I believe the Democrats support is based solely on the belief that these illegal immigrants will vote along the Democratic party line once they attain legal status.

Our elected representatives in Washington are playing a political game with the security of our border and our country. Where in this bill is the solution to border security? They have spent a great deal of time debating ways to enable the illegal immigrants to “come out of the shadows”, but how do they propose to prevent another 40,000,000 or 50,000,000 illegal immigrants from crossing into our country? I believe that if this legislation is passed, the $5000 fine will be waived or forgotten, and 20 years from now we will be debating what to do about the 50,000,000 illegal immigrants living and working in our country.

Effects of Immigration on African-American Employment and Incarceration

A new NBER study suggests that immigration has more far-reaching consequences than merely depressing wages and lowering employment rates of low-skilled African-American males: its effects also appear to push some would-be workers into crime and, later, into prison.

Run Fred Run, But Will Newt Run With You?

Newt Gingrich recently told Diane Sawyer that there was a great possibility that he would run for president. He said sometime last year that he would run if he felt that there was no other strong candidate in the GOP. He seemed to infer that he would run if he thought there was no one strong enough to stop Hillary. Well, there is someone strong enough to beat her; the problem that that someone is Barack Obama.

Newt has been setting himself up for a run for quite some time. He has been very active in politics. You can read his articles at Human Events. He is pretty regular on FoxNews. He has been very active in working for health care reform and has even given testimony in front of Congress on changes that could be made to lower costs for the poorest of Americans without raising taxes. His book, "Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America" is great. If he were able to implement everything in that book while wisely conducting the War on Terror, he would easily go down as one of the greats. He would have to get everything past Congress of course. He is very vocal regarding immigration and the need to secure the border, a hot topic issue with conservatives, and with many liberals also.

So, the problem is this thing with an ex-wife. His past indiscretions are seen as a huge roadblock. Conservatives see it as a betrayal of core values, and liberals see him as a hypocrite for going after Clinton. Granted, Newt didn't commit perjury, so the liberals have little to stand on. But they are convinced that Clinton did nothing wrong, and they won't let facts get in the way of their agenda. Conservatives take issue with Newt because some are concerned that one who cheats on his wife will cheat on his country.

All this aside, Newt is a potential candidate who has been neck and neck with another undeclared potential candidate. Fred Thompson and Newt have both been running 3rd and 4th in the GOP presidential candidate polls despite the fact that they have not declared. Fred is seen by many as the "Reagan" candidate, but probably because they have both been in movies. Fred has quite a bit of support from people who like his attitude, even if they don't know a lot about where he stands and what he would accomplish. He did a great job of making Michael Moore look like a buffoon and has had much to say about things like taxes, security, and immigration. All of this added to his popularity means that he could probably beat Hillary if she ran with Obama as her running mate in the showdown.

So this begs the question, does Newt step aside if Fred declares, say June 12 on the Tonight Show? If Fred runs, many think he will win. The thought is that he fills the gaps left by the current field, and he doesn't have the Newt baggage. Newt wants to run, he wants to be the President of the United States. He wants to prevent another Clinton administration, but he wants to be in the White House for more than that. He has great ideas and can do some good for the country. But can he beat Fred? If Fred keeps this popularity running, and announces soon, he may be unstoppable.

There are issues with the current field. Rudy, the current front runner, won't tell us his real thoughts on abortion. He has the best leadership, but won't get the religious voters. McCain hasn't figured out that conservatives are opposed to amnesty. Romney could be the come-from-behind-to-win guy, and if he wins the primaries, has the potential to steal votes from the democratic candidates. But many don't trust him on abortion, and Baptists think Mormonism is a cult. The other candidates just aren't popular enough. Some of them have good messages, they simply haven't expressed them the way American's like to hear them expressed.

Beating the democrats may be more necessary now than ever before. The Democratic Party has no idea that we are at war. The Republican Party has sold out on too many issues and looks more corrupt every day. There are terrorists looking to sneak nukes across wide open borders. The Republican sell-out handed Congress to the likes of Pelosi, Reid, and Murtha. It could hand the White House to Hillary, Obama, or Edwards. Our country cannot afford to let this happen. We are at war regardless of our inability to accept it and a democratic President will back down in the War on Terror.

This leaves a great opportunity for someone who is very popular, and very conservative, to jump in and take the primaries. Newt and Fred are both waiting for conservatives to get tired of the flip-flops and bad answers in the debates. But I don’t think that Newt can beat Fred, and I think Newt knows it. If Fred announces, Newt may wait it out to see what happens and possibly run the next time around.

I do have an alternative though. What do you think of Thompson/Gingrich 2008?

Broken Border Promises by Tom Tancredo

Tom Tancredo doesn't hold back. He tells it like it is in this Washington Times Op-Ed piece.

by Tom Tancredo
Washington Times, May 17th, 2007

In January 2004, President Bush proposed a sweeping new guest-worker and amnesty plan for illegal aliens. More than two years later, in June 2006, he announced a series of moves aimed at showing he was at long last getting serious about border security. Unfortunately, under his plan border security cannot even come close to reality until at least 2010. Congress should acknowledge this fact and postpone any immigration overhaul until border security is a reality, not another broken promise.

Sold to the Highest Bidder!! Mexico

Here is Malkin with some links and commentary from National Review and NumbersUSA. "It's here: The Bush-Kennedy amnestyReport: Potential cost = $2.5 trillionUpdated with GOP reax"

Brietbart gives some of the details of the sale.

Senator DeMint calls it what it is. "But the little we do know about the bill is troubling. According to reports, the bill contains a new 'Z Visa' that allows those who entered our country illegally to stay here permanently without ever returning home. This rewards people who broke the law with permanent legal status, and puts them ahead of millions of law-abiding immigrants waiting to come to America. I don't care how you try to spin it, this is amnesty."

And here is Mitt, who won some points from me today. "I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. That is unfair to the millions of people who have applied to legally immigrate to the U.S. Today's Senate agreement falls short of the actions needed to both solve our country's illegal immigration problem and also strengthen our legal immigration system. Border security and a reliable employment verification system must be our first priority."

Rep. Steve King: "Each one of these Senators should wear a scarlet letter 'A' for amnesty." Thank you Mr. King.

I also found a good post at digg from poster ritad. Does anyone see the irony that we lost 2 pretty good Kennedy boys, now we are left with fat old windbag brother Teddy, who along with El president Bush, and the rest of the scum bags on both the left and the right have just sold our country down the river by voting to reward bad behavior by illegal immigrants with amnesty. We will now for all intents and purposes be a one party country as the stupid Republicans cannot see the fact that all these new illegal citizens will most assuredly vote democratic, and since they will be the majority now, shows the republicans have just effectively shot their own balls off and don't even realize it, oh well if they are that stupendously ignorant, they don't deserve to have a party anyway. I have one question for anyone out here who might be able to answer it, why in the world do we feel we owe amnesty to people invading our country, disrespecting our laws and our sovereignty, the way they are doing? I am sorry, I just don't get it and will never will, if the house reps, are unable to squelch this bill, our country is doomed. Gone our beautiful country, trashed as Mexico is, wonder when there are not enough original Americans left to pay for welfare, food stamps, medicaid and whatever other entitlements these people feel they should be entitled to, what will they do then? Will they "migrate" on up to Canada? God, we could be so lucky! Our, we might just join Iraq, and have our own little civil war, due to the fact that most of our American citizens are strongly against this amnesty!

And let us not forget who it is we are letting into our country.

Bush's Approval Rating at 33%, Congress 29%

For the past several months we have listened to the breathless reports of the news media of the President’s low approval ratings. Bush’s numbers as of Tuesday of this week are at a dismal 33% according to a recent Gallup poll. His numbers have hovered between the 30% to 40% range for the past year or so. Bush’s problem is obvious, the war in Iraq. One thing missing from the news reports about Bush’s approval numbers is the approval rating of the Congress.

In the same Gallup poll, the Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi run Congress have lower approval numbers than the President does. A staggering 29% of Americans believe that Congress is doing a good job. We have to look at the numbers a little differently than we look at the President’s. Control of both houses of Congress was handed over to the Democrats in January of this year. In January the numbers jumped from 21% before the takeover to 35% after Nancy Pelosi became the first woman Speaker of the House. In the four months that the Democrats have run the legislative branch of our government, the independent and Democratic voters have lost faith in the ability of the Democrats to get the job done.

I believe that many in the Democratic party are upset that their leaders have not ended all funding for the war, and they have not brought impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush. The independent voters are upset because they voted for a change in Washington, and they see that the Democrats are not fulfilling their promises of fiscal responsibility.

In the four months since the changeover, what major legislation has been passed? What has been accomplished? They passed a supplemental war funding bill that was laden with pork and a timetable for surrender in Iraq. They knew that the bill would never be signed by the President, but they passed it anyway to appease their far left wing supporters.

This week the House was working on another supplemental funding bill, also loaded with pork and a surrender date, and Speaker Pelosi made speeches about needing to work on a bipartisan resolution to the stalemate. I have noticed that whenever any politician speaks of bipartisanship, they really mean that the opposition needs to agree with all of my points. The Senate rejected their version of the bill with bipartisan support against the bill. I guess that isn’t the type of bipartisanship the Ms. Pelosi and Harry Reid were looking for.

The Congress and the administration were able to work on a bipartisan bill this week. The new and improved immigration bill that both the Congress and the administration worked on all week does have bipartisan support, but only when it comes to the politicians. Illegal immigration is one issue that the majority of the voting public agrees on. Most Americans want to see something significant done about the illegal immigration problem, but both political parties want some form of amnesty and are afraid to do anything about securing our borders.
I believe that both Congress and the administration would see a significant jump in their numbers if they stopped patronizing to a perceived voting block of people and actually accomplished something on illegal immigration and securing our borders. The Congress would see a change in their numbers if they stopped their sophomoric attempts at ending the war and just passed something definitive. If they believe that we have lost the war, as Harry Reid said a few weeks ago, then they should pull all funding for the war and take an actual stand for something. Congressmen are voted into office to do what is best for their constituents and for the country. I believe it would be the wrong thing to do, but if it is what they believe is best than go ahead and do it.

Can Ron Paul Win a 'Scientific' Poll, or Just the Online Polls?

Much has been said online, places like digg and prisonplanet, that Ron Paul is destroying the other candidates in the polls. Interestingly, he only seems to be winning the online polls.

LGF has the story about Prisonplanet's piece claiming that there is no way to fake online polling because they register your IP address. Really guys? This is from one of the websites that claims Bush orchestrated 9-11. Bush managed to cover up 9-11, but Ron Paul supporters can't download one of the thousands of IP programs that allow you to use one of the many proxy servers that are connected to hide your IP address? I'm not buying it kids. Now, I'm only guessing here about those proxy programs of course, I don't have one on my computer. Well, not at the moment. And if you ask me if I have ever had one, I will plead the 5th, being a strict Constitutionalist and all.

Real Clear Politics has run the numbers, and it shows Giuliani to be on top of the polls right now. This is from a combination of a large number of telephone polls from different organizations. If Ron Paul is the clear winner in both debates, why is he only at about 1% in the polls right now? And before you start on the conspiracy theories, allow me to give you one of my own. The conspiracy lies with those who support Ron Paul. You are going online and voting multiple times for him, and if need be, using easy access to proxy servers to hide your IP address. Either my theory is right, or none of you people own telephones. I will be the first to say that I am not a big fan of poll numbers, but how do you explain the huge discrepancy? The best number I have seen yet for Ron Paul in any non-online poll is 3%.

I know that you have a theory to retort. I know you will spout off that Ron Paul is being left out of the polls on purpose, or some other nonsense. But here's the deal. Conspiracy theories are not going to get Ron Paul into the White House. Conspiracy theories aren't going to help our country. Conspiracy theories just make the rest of us think that you are all nuts. I happen to agree with Paul on many things regarding using the Constitution as the litmus test. I love the Constitution and spent 5 years under oath to defend it. I would still pick up a gun to defend it if need be. I absolutely love the fact that lobbyists stay far and away from Paul's office, knowing that he will shoot them down. We need more of that attitude in D.C. I disagree with his stance on isolationism because we exist in a day and age where technology keeps us too tightly knit. But that is a completely different piece that I am not getting into at the moment. The issue I am bringing up here is that people see through this internet escapade. Those who don’t see through it are the ones who don't use the internet that much, so they only see the media polls. This means Ron Paul gets nowhere near the White House. This means you are all wasting your time promoting yet another ridiculous conspiracy that needs to be put down. Do something constructive like supporting border security.

WASHINGTON — Republicans and Democrats were nearing a deal Tuesday on a sweeping immigration overhaul that would give millions of illegal immigrants a chance at legal status but strictly limit future arrivals from staying in the U.S.

The proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a probationary "Z visa" and — after paying fees and fines of up to $5,000 and returning to their home countries — ultimately try for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. The process couldn't begin until border security improvements and a high-tech worker identification program were completed.

Angry editors note.

Oh sure, this will work. We will just tell the people who are already here illegally to go home and come back later. I'm sure that they will jump right in, pay all their fines, and go back to Mexico for 8 years.

This is what we call "Legislation for legislation's sake"

Congress has no right discussing immigration reform until AFTER they properly secure the border and complete the process of removing as many illegal aliens as possible.

The end of the article quotes Trent Lott as saying we need immigration reform, but he doesn't want to pass a bad bill. Hey Trent, how about Congressional reform instead? You didn't learn anything last year when the angry Republicans decided not to show up and vote? Secure the border. Stop letting illegals and terrorists into our country.
